Using pills to treat depression has become more popular over the years.There may be a better ways to treat depression then just by using pills such as antidepressants . There are many unnecessary side effects that anti-depression pills can cause. It seems that there are more negative effects then positive effects. These companies like Prozac and Zoloft have misleading ads. There are many alternatives people can try before using antidepressants . It would be interesting to know if there are other any abstract reasons to why antidepressants are per scribed a lot Antidepressants do not always cure depression they affect our health in various ways , other solutions are necessary .
Advertisements influence people to take antidepressants .What they do not specify on the advertisements is the side effects antidepressants may cause. some people are unaware of all those effects. people are getting these pills prescribed to them and asking there doctors if they should take them. These misleading ads are seen in many places such as , T.V. and even in the doctors office . pamphlets advertising these drugs are also provided on the streets . In commercials like the Cymbalta it shows people with there family and they are smiling while a lady is talking in through the commercial listing all the side effects that the pill causes. It makes you wonder how the people in the commercial are happy when they are being exposed to all these side effects.
Antidepressants have many negative side effects that all people should know before taking. Some of these side effects include serotonin syndrome which is a very serious condition. It causes agitation, hallucinations, problems with coordination, racing heart beat, over-active reflexes, fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It also has been known to cause abnormal bleeding which will make you bruise easily and will make you bleed for a long time if you get cut. The drugs can also cause Mania which will give you a lot of energy and give you trouble sleeping. Seizures and loss of appetite are also more common side affects that occur after taking Prozac. Those are just the serious side effects that antidepressants cause. Some of the common effects are abnormal dreams, anxiety, weakness, dry mouth, flu, decreased sex drive, nervousness, sore throat, hot flashes, and many more. Not only do you have those effects, but when you stop taking these drug you go through withdrawals. If people get informed about the serious side effects that they are exposed to by taking antidepressants like Prozac they might want to think again.
Some people might not be aware about important facts based on antidepressants . Oh ,how happy we will be by Greg Crister talks about How researchers at laboratories experimented with Prozac and rats . It says “moreover,The compound appeared to be pharmaceutically “clean” it affected few other neural systems ,so side effects would be minimal .A note :#82816 was labeled fluoxetine .This is what we now cal Prozac.” In other words based on this experiment Prozac is not safe and it is harmful . How important is your body to you?I do not think its worth putting your body to the test if you know Prozac is not a reliable solution .
Lots of money is made from selling antidepressants . This can be the reason why many doctors suggest taking antidepressants Oh ,how happy we will be by Greg Crister states “In the past ,unopposed by an organization generic-drugs lobby,they had been free to charge as much as possible .Price ,not quantity ,ruled the bottoms line . It is incredibly sad to realize that people do not really take in consideration what they are putting out in the market to sell . Prozac like many other antidepressants cause some people to feel worse .A good profit is made from antidepressant drugs but many life's are destroyed!
Antidepressants also influence on peoples suicidal thoughts . This is a very serious issue . People look forward to a way out of their problem but they end up crashing into these issues . On the article “Antidepressants increase suicidal thoughts in under-25s” by By Steve Connor It claims “Young adults under the age of 25 suffer an increased risk of suicide or suicidal thoughts when they take antidepressants and the risk is greatest after they take the drugs for anxiety and other mental problems not connected with depression, a study has found”. When taking antidepressant people expected to get better ,feel better and continue with their normal life but this is very difficult if you experience suicidal thoughts . It would be magnificent if there was a cure that did not place people at this point of their life .If we continue to get informed ,there is a safer way to get a treatment and prevent suicidal thoughts .
Many people usually just jump to the conclusion that they need to take medication to treat there illness when there are other ways they can treat depression. One way they can treat depression without using medication is light therapy. Light therapy is when you keep a bright light in your house and makes it seem like it’s day time. They it works by re-setting your biological clock timing (your "circadian rhythms") toward where it should be. Another way to help depression without taking pills is by using acupuncture. How it works is insert needles into the body to stimulate the body’s flow of energy. Also people use psychotherapy which is the most common. Psychotherapy is when a you talk to a person who is a therapist and they help you figure out what is causing you depression.These types of therapies help you deprive yourself from the bad side effects of the pills .
In conclusion keep your body health and safe do not let antidepressants damage your body . If you have a depression or think you are going through depression do not hesitate to go to a doctor just keep in mind that there are other ways to treat depression . Anti depression is not the Popper way to treat depression ! keep away from Antidepressants .Inform yourself more about antidepressant and do not let anybody fool you to thinking antidepressants have no bad side effects.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when we you are feeling blue ? In many occasions the first option is antidepressants .Many doctors prescribe antidepressants is their patient is dealing with depression . Antidepressant is a pharmaceutical drug that is use very often to treat depression . In some cases antidepressants make someone become addicted. Before taking antidepressant you should keep in mind their effectiveness, risks and also if there are anymore solutions to depression . Antidepressants do not always cure your depression they affect your health in various ways .
Depression There are many types of depression . There is major depression,chronic depression (dysthymia), Atypical depression ,Postpartum depression ,Bipolar depression,seasonal depression and also Psychotic depression . Each of these depressions are different . You may find yourself felling lonely , sad , depressed . Depression is dangerous for your health . Major depression is when we experience lack of interest . For example you might not feel like going to school or work anymore . You might not want to do things that you would usually enjoy before . Chronic depression lasts two years or more and its a strong feeling of sadness . Atypical depression is when a person feel her or she is getting better but its only temporarily . Postpartum depression can occur in new mothers and its symptom's are more prolonged. Bipolar depression deals with mood disorders . Seasonal depression is brought out through the change of seasons Its peoples sensitivity to season changes .Psychotic depression is very serious . During this depression the person starts to hear voices or see people . So many types of depression and the only solution that people take in consideration are antidepressants.
Before taking any antidepressant we should be aware of their side effects . At www.helpguide.org it states “antidepressants aren’t a silver bullet for depression. Medication doesn’t cure the underlying problem and is rarely a long-term solution” A agree with this statement because some people think that antidepressant are the best solution when its really not. Antidepressants have side effects . One type of antidepressant is Prozac .Prozac has many side effects such as :high blood pressure,chest pain, weight loss ,Vision changes , constipation and much more . While you may think that Prozac is helping you cope with depression it is really making you worse !Our health is very essential and we need to find what is best for our body . Its better to get into a treatment to help cope treat depression than take antidepressants which make our health worsen .
Depression can be dealt with just a change in our life style . For instance we can exercise ,get a better nutrition , get a good rest , we can also find social support . Depression can be caused be a lost in the family . If this is the situation it is best if we find that social support someone when can talk to . You might want to let yourself out .Getting a good exercise helps keep you of the problem because your active and it will also make you feel better with yourself. A good nutrition also helps with a good health .you need to eat the right food at the right time in order to be healthy . Rest is very important ,you don't want to feel overwhelmed so you need to sleep .
As a result lets cure depression the right way . Think of the healthiest way to get to treat depression . Don't always try to find the easiest way because its not always the right way. Antidepressants don't cure your health ! .

What do all people want? Many people want long lasting relationships. However, to have a happy long lasting relationship one must understand certain concepts. There might be abundant obstacles to face as a couple, but happy and long lasting relationships are not impossible. Most couples are likely to endure emotional bumps, but their ability to maintain their feelings will ultimately become their most important challenge. For a happy long lasting relationship to survive the test of time, unconditional love should be kept alive in mind and most importantly at heart. The concept of love and sacrifice is also important but let’s not forget that cultivating our relationships also help . If we practice these three concepts we are more likely to have a happy and long lasting relationship.
In recent times, most relationships are built upon what they posses financially or by how they are viewed by society. This erroneous perception does not guarantee the success of a happy relationship and neither can it last forever. It is imperative that an emotional relationship should be based on the love that is born by accepting your significant other not for what they own, but by what that person signifies to you on an emotional and caring level. Unconditional means to love without condition. It means loving a person regardless of whatever defects they may have, how they look or how they act. In "Happier "by Tal Ben -Shahar It says "To be loved for our wealth, power, or fame is to be loved for our stead fastness, intensity, or warmth is to be conditionally”. Our significant over may not have all the money in the world but if he or she has the ability to make you smile, it will bring happiness into our lives. Unconditional love is the right way to love someone .Jon Gerneter writes “...... so for the average person, the obstacle between them and happiness is actually getting the future that they desire .” In other words for people who seek money from their partner will most likely not have along lasting relationship . These view their partner for who they are but ,how their partner can offer them the future they would want to have .
Have you ever sacrificed something for someone you love? For a happy relationship sometimes people have to make sacrifices. For example, I once had the opportunity to come across a recently married couple; which in my opinion serves as a perfect example of unconditional love. This particular couple just got married and were also pregnant with their first child. The husband was completing his education, as he hoped to one day become a teacher. As a requirement, he had to accept a one year paid internship in a school that happen to be located in a remote jungle. His wife was really concerned, but as the money was also needed they made the decision to accept. The wife had to leave behind her city , her family and her entire life, as she understood her husband’s need to fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher, and also because they needed money . The sacrifice that was made between this couple was very important. Now, the husband became a teacher and they have enough money to feed their kid. They lived a happy life. In "Happier “by Tal -Ben shahar it says “It is important to note that standing by one's partner in a time of need is not a sacrifice; when we love someone we often feel that helping that person is helping yourself” . I agree with this quote a sacrifice for love is an act one does to contribute something to the relationship.
I think that for a couple to have a long and happy relationship , it is best if they cultivate their relationship together .Although a man is expected to provide for his family I think it is better if they both cultivate for their future and their family. To cultivate means to plant the seed of responsibility, commitment and love into a relationship. For example a couple who works together to build a house for their family. In "Happier" by Tal - Ben shahar it states " I don’t believe that there is just one right person for each of us, but rather cultivating the chosen relationship” For some people the right person is he or she that has money, houses or cars; but what Tal -Ben shahar means is that is best if as a couple cultivates or puts work on getting the house, car or money together.
A long happy relationship is not impossible. A relationship is like a house we must begin to build on solid ground. If we wish for the house to stand and not fall. If a relationship is build by two people. Making sacrifices for one another shows how much a couple understands and care for each other .Jon Gertner writers “....the problem is you cant always get what you want“.This quote is very important to remember because we may wish your partner to look great and have a good economic possibility. If you think about this twice you may ask yourslef is that really what you want ?I think unconditional is a bright way to look at a idea such as this one . unconditional love plays a positive role in a long and happy relationship .After all the looks on that guy you dreamed may not make you happy but , the way he is will make you want to be with him always because he will make you happy . Maintaning a long and happy relationship is not as hard and impossible as it may look or as you may think it is !

Blog 5

Spending time with loved ones.

As we grow up we are surrounded by all the people we love and people who care about us . We have mom and dad to take care of us. Its as if they were our superheros . They always there when we cry ,when we laugh . It does not matter what occasion but they are there when we need their help . At all times they try to keep us protected and safe .

When I was about eight years old I remember I would love to go anywhere my mom went . I loved when we would spend time together in the kitchen and i would help her make diner . In my mother i found that security and love I was looking for . As i got older I was very suprised that I will tell my mom everything about my life . I think its important for parents to spend time with their children in order to have a good parent and child relationship .

Cultivating vs Finding

If we talk about a relationship between a couple cultivating and finding can apply . There are some women and man who look for a mate in order to succeed together . The have dreams such as buying a car, a house or going on vacation . They plan out these goals and as a couple decide that the will work together in order to make these goals possible . On the other hand finding is when your looking for something specific . For example you want to marry a guy who owns a house and a car and he is very rich ,So you would look for a guy who meets those qualities . I would prefer more to cultivate something together with my partner in order for us to succeed together and to help one another .

Gratitude

I have an enormous gratitude with my parents for taking care for me all this time . They have provided me with everything I needed and they always cared for me . People can have many ways of showing their gratitude for something they are thank full . The way I thanked my parents was by not giving them much problems . As they raised me I would also listen to them, do chores around the house , and I also put lots of effort in school so they would be proud of me . My parents always told me that they would do anything for me as long as I did my best in school . I Listened to my parents and thats way am here .I want to show my parents all the effort they put to raise me was for a good and that I would not let them down.

Happiness at Work
                  People work for necessity, because they enjoy what they do and some to satisfy their ambition. I think that the best thing  that can happen to someone  is to work at a place where you feel comfortable and enjoy what you do for a living .In “Happier” by Tal Ben –shahar It says “The psychologist Abraham Maslow once wrote that the most beautiful fate, the most wonderful good fortune that can happen to any human being, is to be paid for doing that which he passionately loves to do .“I agree with this quote because most people work for 40 hours a week and doing  something you don’t  like can lead to making you feel miserable
                    In “Happier “ by Tal Ben-shahar he explains” MPS” process which means Meaning ,Pleasure and strength .   He says “We can begin the process by asking these three crucial questions.”What gives me meaning?”What gives  me pleasure ?”What are my strengths ”and noting  the trend that emerge . Looking at the answers and identifying areas of over lap can help us determine what kind of work would make  us happiest. Using the” MPS” process I am sure nursing would make me happy . As  I was growing up I always felt the need to help others .When my little brother would fall I  always helped him clean up and put a bandage over his cut . Health is very important therefore I want to help prevent illnesses .
              In conclusion there is no other job than being a nurse what would fill me  with joy. I wouldn’t want to work in something that I don't find any interest . I want to wakeup every morning with lots of energy to go to work . The only way I would find Happiness work would be if  i found myself in a field where I can help people in need .

                                              Happiness in Education

                              Happiness can be very difficult to find in education when emotions take over our mind .My bad emotions towards education can reflect on how I feel and think about my education. It’s as if my emotions and feelings have a mind of their own!
                             I have been attending school for the past fourteen years of my life. In school we were taught how to read and write, how to add and subtract and best of all they even taught us how to color. There are times where school can become interesting with the many things you can learn but there are also times where it can get so frustrating.   To begin the search of finding happiness in education can be by eliminating the negative habits I may have as a student.  Three bad habits I have are: fear of failure, stress   and also lack of focus. These are the three undesirable habits that have become the boundaries between happiness in education. I think that education is very essential in a person’s life; if we lose interest on education we wouldn't be able to enjoy education which is necessary in order to succeed.
                          The fear of failure takes over my body when I see a low grade. When I have to take tests I begin to presence fear. Even if I studied for the test a day before my mind will blank out. I feel I have no control over this fear, it’s like my emotions do as they please! A few days ago I took a psychology test and I studied the entire week; I was sure I was going to pass. The day of the test as I sat in the room and I begin to read the first question.  I didn't know anything at all.  .As a result I failed. Since my major is nursing I can’t afford to fail a test so I had to find a solution. My solution to this problem is to gain confidence or meditate before the Test. Confidence will give me the courage I need to pass with flying colors. I think Meditating can also help because it helps the person gain peace and calm into the body and mind, it will help me get rid of the fear towards getting a low grade on the test and failing.
          Stress is an emotion I obtain when school work is complicated. In” Happier" by Tal Ben- Shahar , He writes, “The drowning model shows two things: the desire to free ourselves of pain can be a strong motivator and that, once freed, we can easily mistake our relief for happiness” (83). I find myself agreeing with Shahar’s way of thinking. For example English class is very difficult for me. It might not even be the class but the work. when we were assigned to write this blog I thought it would be pretty simple to write about myself  but as I brainstorm what to write I begin to feel stressed because I have no ideas. I had no clue what I was going to write about .In this situation the stress I’m feeling is leading me into the drowning model. The reason why I find myself experiencing the drowning model is because the stress I feel   encourages me to  me to finish my paper .After i finish writing this paper i might feel a slight relief but it doesnt mean its happiness. In order to find happiness in education the best suggestion i can give myself is to avoid stress. When i can’t suceed my first feeling can’t be stress because I have to give it my best try.
             Here is my worst habit lack of focus. I think I find myself in this situation when I don’t find what am doing interesting. A good example of my lack of focus would be in an in social studies class. While am there I lose focus and think about anything. My mind is just not where its suppose to be. Social studies don’t grab my attention. To have happiness in education the best choice is to do something you enjoy doing. What I enjoy doing the most is  exercising ; If I exercise before a social studies class or any other class I don’t like very much  I will find myself in the best condition to proceed without being distracted or losing focus during class  . In Ken Robinson’s speech, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” He talks about a girl. Her teachers thought that she had a learning disorder because she had to “move to think”. What the teacher didn’t know was she loved to dance and when she joined musical theater where she found people like her. She was pleased because she was doing something she liked which was dancing. I also enjoy dancing so if I do what I enjoy the most I will feel happier.
                        
           In conclusion education is a necessity. In order for people to get further in life. Many people have dreams of becoming doctors, police officers, teachers, fire fighters, nurses, etc; the only way to make to it through life is by using education to fill us with knowledge. Education might not be the most wonderful thing but where would we be without it?  Happiness in the world is also necessary so if you are your not   you need to find a solution as soon as possible.  Bringing happiness into education is going to help us have a better life.

                  Is it possible to find Happiness in Education?  I define education as a way to get the knowledge we need to succeed in life. During the past 14 years of my life I have been attending school. It all began from elementary to Jr high school to High school and now college. It has been a very difficult journey. Along the way there have been moments full of frustration and other moments of joy. Based on my experience I think Happiness can be found in education!
In the article Our Best Chance for Happiness Is Education by   Mark Van Doren, He explains two methods that explain how students are motivated. One method is “The drowning model “and “The Love making model “. She says “The drowning model shows two things: that the desire to free ourselves of pain can be a stronger motivator and that, once freed, we can easily mistake our relief for happiness........The love making model however ,offers a different way of thinking about learning , One that can encompass both present and future benefit .”  I can connect more to     “The drowning model “. There are times where I feel so stressed with school work. It comes to a point where I can’t take it anymore so my desire not to feel stressed motivates me .She is correct when she says that the desire to be stress free can be confused with happiness . Is it happiness? I agree with Mark Van Doren we get confused.
In Ken Robinson’s speech, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” He talks about a girl. Her teachers thought that she had a learning disorder because she had to “move to think”. What the teacher didn’t know was she loved to dance and when she joined musical theater where she found people like her. She was pleased because she was doing something she liked which was dancing. I think that the clue to find happiness is exactly what this girl did. She danced and did what she enjoyed most. In school we are taught math, reading, writing science etc these subjects aren’t interesting to all students but we have to make it interesting in order to learn. What we can do to find happiness in education is follow this girls example and make our classes fun. For example reading is not always pleasant when you read something you don’t like; a good idea would be to find a book or article on a topic which you are interested on.
              As a student one thing I hate are tests .There is nothing more that I hates  more  than taking tests , but I do like to talk and make friends . A solution to this problem can be to form a study group. Although I hate tests in a study group I get the opportunity to make friend but also study for my test because it’s impossible not to have them. I also lose focus very fast when I don’t understand certain things. What I can do to fix this issue is leave the fear on the side and ask questions. This will be the only way I am going to understand better and be able to maintain focused.  My fear towards failures is something I have to fix step by step with a lot of effort while studying taking notes and trying my best at all times. If I manage to fix these 3 issues in my life I thing I will find happiness in my education.
        In conclusion I am positive Happiness can be found in education. The student has to  find what they like and Enjoy what they do .If we think of how our future would be if we got far in Education because  We will inspire ourselves .In the future I view myself as I doctor and and that’s my inspiration towards succeeding in education ,therefore I find happiness in my education!

                    Economist George Lowenstein is associated with hot states and cold states . Based on Lowenstein He refers a cold state as rational calm .Anxiety,courage,fear,drug craving and ,sexual excitation are some of the emotions we feel during a hot state . Hot state is the reason why we act before we think ;We are led by our emotions and we give them a mind of their own .sometimes the outcomes can be regretful ! Cold states allowed a person to do the opposite of the hot state , A cold state allows us to think before we act . I would always prefer to be at a cold state all the time !
           One experience associated with a hot state was when i had a conflict with my mother . My mother had spend the entire day explaining the importance of school . She said that school was very important and I had to do our best to maintain a good average so i would make it into a good college . I strongly agreed with her . The next day i received a test grade at school and i was very proud to have received an eighty . I took my test home and  i showed my mom . My moms reaction wasn’t the one i was expecting and neither was mine . My mom took my test and she madly replied “this is very good but next time try to get 100 “. I was furious because it wasn’t what i wanted to hear from her . I felt very mad so i took my test ripped it up into small tiny pieces and through them in the garbage. My reaction was the worst thing i could have done to my mother . As i went to my room i saw tears in my mothers eyes . In my room i had time to relax and think . This is where i reached the “cold state “. I figured what i did was very disrespectful and wrong . My mom didn’t mean  what she said in a bad way; My mom just wanted me to aim higher and not be satisfied with a eighty.
           Another example  of  hot and cold states was when i was 10 years old . I went on a trip to the fire department. I was excited to meet the fire fighters and very interested on their work . what i enjoyed was when they timed us how long it took us to get out the fire department in case of a fire . As i went home i though we can practice at home with my family .I went home and screamed “fire The house is burning”! . My mom was very scared and the first thing she did was take everybody out the house . As she grabbed her cell phone to call 911 i told her that i lied . My mother explained i should have never played around that way because it was very dangerous . After that incident i thought about all the commotions i cause . I decided never to do that again unless it was real .I reached the hot state after taken over my emotion of  excitement and curiosity towards the experience of a real fire . Luckily when i came down to the cold state i understood my mistake .
           I think many people reach cold and hot states in every day life  . Our emotions take over our minds and we do the first thing that comes up to mind . My experiences  give examples of how i can connect to hot and cold states . Its weird how the best state to be is in a cold state ,which makes our body's and mind calm and we can getter a clear view but it takes a long while to have reached a cold state.

I found this video interesting . People are randomly being asked what is happiness and their responses are very similar to each other . I thought the same as the people in the video . I thought happiness was going shopping, money ,love or just a simple smile but Now I think there is alot more to it !
